Featured Artist for January: Julie McGrath
Gallery Night Pensacola will also include the work of Illustrator and graphic artist Julie McGrath. She grew up in Massachusetts and attended the University of Massachusetts at Boston, earning a bachelor’s degree in Art focusing in Art History. From there she went on to focus her studies on Illustration and Design earning a Master of Arts degree in Illustration Design from Savannah College of Art and Design.
Forever amazed by the pages of Vogue and the work of designers like Giambattista Valli, Marc Jacobs and Dior she finds inspiration in creating their intricate designs on paper. With a profound love of fashion and art her studies of Valli and Dior bring both worlds together.
When she is not staring at pages of Vogue, Julie finds inspiration in the people around her and twisting proportions. Her illustration work is reflective of her fascination of people watching, the cultural conventions of beauty mixed with a bit of humor. She also finds creativity and inspiration in the imaginations of her children.
Recently, Julie completed her second Master of Arts degree at SCAD, this time in Art Administration. Julie teaches in the Visual Arts Department at Pensacola State College and in the Humanities Department at Southern New Hampshire University. She continues to evolve and nurture her style, while also obsessing over the latest runway show.
Gallery Night Pensacola: Bringing ART to the Streets
Gallery Night events bring “Art To The Streets” with 30 fine artists, craftsman, five food trucks, and live music venues. Artistic mediums to include glass, paint, woodworking, jewelry, and mixed media. In addition to arts and activities, downtown restaurants, galleries and shops will be open extended hours encouraging patrons to come and explore our award winning downtown.
